OUR PURPOSE: Inspire all Startups to Discover, Design, & Deliver their MVP³: Most Valuable Purpose+

Community hero image
Do our planet and society need saving? You bet they do.
Just watch any daily news outlet.
Can Startups play an active role in preserving our planet and helping people thrive?
The answer is an emphatic "HELL YES" !!

We no longer have a choice.
Like all businesses, Startups will either become part of the problem or part of the solution.
And if there's one thing Startups know how to do, it's solving problems.
let's start solving!

This simple 3-letter word will make the difference in your Startup's success... and humanity's survival.

Imagine a future in which no company threatens the well-being of people or planet.
Where business is considered a universal force for good.
An ecosystem where the more profitable companies become, the more they are celebrated by all stakeholders, not just their shareholders.
Purposefy believes in that future, and It starts today by choosing "&" over "OR"
Make this simple conscious decision from day one of your Startup, even before developing your MVP, or raising your first round.

Choose to do WELL (Profit) "&" GOOD (Sustainability/Regeneration)

We no longer have to make trade-offs between only making money & being a conscious business. Between out-of-control growth & living within our planetary means. We can, and must do both.
And what better time to start exploring the profitable planet-saving power of "&" than at the very Start[up]?

You're at the beginning of your carbon footprint journey

Probably not how you'd characterize your Startup launch!
Still, any way you slice it, your business will have a negative carbon footprint and impact on people and our planet.
Read on to see how to make sure it's a Net Positive one.

THE STATE OF OUR WORLD

First, the bad news.
Don't worry, there's plenty of positive upside with "&"

Something isn’t right. How we live is no longer serving us.
And research now proves unequivocally that Business is a significant contributor to these 5 life-threatening systemic problems.

How much of a contribution? Global consumer household consumption (originating from Business) is responsible for more than 60% of global emissions.
And we've known about the negative effects of business-driven Climate Change for a while... actually quite a long while (100+ years)!

1912 Article - Australian Mining Trade Journal

It boils down to this: The approach by Business of “Take-Make-Use-Lose” to our resources is pushing our planet, environment, economies, and health to breaking points.

We need a different approach

And while solving all five of these interrelated global disasters-in-the-making is crucial to humanity's survival, both the Climate Crisis and Inequality (in all its forms) are the most urgent and negatively affect everything else.

How about that weather? The numbers don't lie: 399 Costly climate disasters in one year Vs. 389 in the prior twenty-one years.
And now it's official: 2024 was Earth's hottest year on record.
2025 is already proving to be worse!

Need more proof? Check out "Earth Overshoot Day".  This is the annual date when humanity's over-demand for natural resources (largely to manufacture and consume commercial products / services) exceeds the Earth's capacity to regenerate its resources.
The result is an ecological deficit, resource depletion, and destructive climate change patterns for the remainder of the year... and for future generations!
Spoiler alert: It gets shorter every year.

Still not convinced? Keep your eye on this KPI: The 9 Planetary Boundaries. Science confirms our planet is defined by 9 environmental guardrails that must be respected to ensure humanity’s lasting harmony with Planet Earth.
We’ve officially crossed over into the 6th.
There's even a name for it now - "The Anthropocene"The time during which humans have had a substantial direct impact on our planet.
Wondering just how much impact we're having? 500+ of the world's leading climate scientists did the heavy lifting for you.
It's called the IPCC report. Have a look, it's a real eye-opener!

Inequality takes many forms: from race, gender, and orientation to economic status and beyond.
In the business world, it's called DEI - three letters that can transform your startup from day one. And while the term has become controversial in certain political circles, the idea of equality is essential to your growth, no matter what you call it.
Integrating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion principles into your Startup's HR strategy doesn’t just level the playing field—it sparks innovation, resilience, and growth.
A 2024 Boston Consulting Group study found that companies with above-average diversity on their management teams reported innovation revenue 19% higher than those with lower employee diversity.
DEI isn't just a politically correct add-on or PR campaign; it's the driver of a thriving, future-ready Startup

But wait... Climate change and Inequality are not our only problems!

They are only two issues on the list of 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs)  are science-based targets and cover all of humanity's problems - from eradicating poverty / homelessness to improving equality, justice, education, healthcare, biodiversity, water quality, climate, and everything in between.
All measured and tracked through 169 specific targets / KPIs.
It's all laid out for us. It's exactly what we need to survive and thrive

Built around the 5 Ps, the SDGs are the only globally proven organizational compass designed specifically for multinational businesses, Startups, governments, and people to collaborate in pursuing a sustainable and equitable future for us all.

What happens when Startups see these 17 big hairy problems?
We think of thousands of elegant solutions.
We don't just think outside the box, we redesign the box to Innovate around difficult consumer, business, environmental, and societal challenges.

Behind every problem lies countless opportunities to innovate:

But this is not solely limited to "Impact Startups" focused on developing specific solutions to address the 17 SDGs.
Startups of all types can and must tap into the SDGs as a guiding framework to become catalysts for business as a force for good.

Bottom line: Nobody wants to invest in or buy from a PLANET NEGATIVE company.
Startups create solutions, and today the collective world needs our big ideas more than ever.
Startups need a new Purpose beyond only making money for shareholders!

DEFINING BRAND PURPOSE[fy]

Purpose. You instinctively know what it is. It provides direction, meaning, and motivation.
It plays a pivotal role in driving groups and individuals to overcome monumental challenges and successfully bring about positive lasting change.
In the language of modern Startups, Purpose stands for the fundamental reason for your business's existence beyond only making money.

It's exactly what Startups need to thrive in today's increasingly VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous) world.

Time to do things differently! We need a new Startup mindset.

One that moves away from maximizing immediate gains at any cost, to one that secures a system-wide thriving future for us all.

A model for going beyond just making money for shareholders, and instead, providing value for all Stakeholders (Shareholders / Consumers / Employees / Communities / Planet).

Reimagining Startups:
The Purposefy "Not-only-for-profit" business model

By systematically activating and giving equal weight to all three dimensions of the model, successful Startups can eventually gain scale, financial resources, and directly influence / change consumer behavior through marketing to make a real, quantifiable difference for People and Planet.
At the heart of the Purposefy model is discovering, designing, and delivering your Startup's MVP3
Originally inspired by "The Lean Startup" book/approach, It's the framework and connecting thread that brings the power of "&" to life.
It sets up your Startup to become the force for good we all need.

Purposefy MVP3 Framework for Breakthrough Startup Impact

You’re an ambitious, innovative startup. You understand the power of a lean, well-designed MVP: Minimum Viable Product.
It fuels customer validation, accelerates market growth, and minimizes risk… 3 vital factors for building out your product market fit and locking down investor commitment.
But a robust product MVP alone won't cut it anymore.
The world needs us to expand into 360º MVPactivation.

Breaking it down: MVP3 = 3 core principles

1) Your new "MVP (Minimum Viable Product)" is at the center of your Startup. It's the big idea you believe will change the world... or at least your industry.
But the world doesn't need another polluting product or service.
Choose instead to adopt Circular Economy business models and product design principles from day one for your MVP development.
Think of waste and unnecessary resource extraction as fundamental product design flaws.
The result: Circularity drives an MVP product design philosophy centered on efficiency, longevity, and regeneration. It means producing only what's essential, crafting enduring products, and ensuring materials can be endlessly reused or safely decomposed to enrich our soil.
Added bonus: Circularity also allows Startups to create new revenue streams through innovative business models like "product-as-a-service".
It boils down to one objective: Reduce waste to a minimum in everything your startup does.
Our planet can no longer handle it.
Cancel "Take-Make-Use-Lose" harmful product development

2) Your "Most Valuable Purpose" is personal.
It's why you get out of bed every morning and pour your heart and soul into your Startup.
It's the North Star that motivates, inspires, and drives your teams to create even more economic value and resulting good in the world.
Marketing your Purpose as an integral part of your brand can be a powerful tool for good and profit: A catalyst for helping people (your customers) become aware of sustainability issues, and change their behavior accordingly.
Choose your brand purpose based on the UN SDGs.
Transform Purpose into Profit and Create Value by Doing Good where its most needed.

3) "Measurable Verifiable Process": The operational playbook for startups.
It’s an ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) and DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) based process that sets you up to manage for business success and societal / environmental impact.
Build your Startup's foundation from day one by fully integrating, measuring, and verifying (through independent certification firms like       B Corp) ESG KPIs that close the gap between what you say (through marketing) and what you do (through action) to ensure your Startup contributes to the greater good.
It’s not just about doing good, it’s about future-proofing your business. It's how you attract the right investors, win customer trust, motivate employees, minimize risk, and build a brand ready for whatever tomorrow brings.

WHAT IS PURPOSEFY AND HOW WE CAN HELP YOU THRIVE?

Your business model is the message:
Don't just "Do Sustainability" - Become Truly Sustainable & Regenerative across your full Startup business ecosystem

At its core, Purposefy is a Community of Practice designed to spark   a Startup Movement rooted in the MVPframework and built on the energy of hope, connection, and action.
A Startup community-based Movement to challenge the Unicorn planet-destroying “growth-at-all-cost” mentality.
Instead, inspiring a mindset of building valuable, profitable brands that focus on doing both WELL (profit) and GOOD (Sustainability and Regeneration).

A Movement to build what is now called Zebras instead of only focusing on Unicorns.

Think and act like a Zebra, create magic like a Unicorn

Most Startups aspire to Unicorn Status. After all, what's not to love about quickly growing to a $ Billion+ valuation?
Problem is, it's hard to enjoy that $ Billion if our planet is burning and drowning... and your customers are not thriving.
Zebras on the other hand, are the more solid cousins of the equine family... not to mention they are actually REAL!
Zebra companies are both black and white: they are engineered to be PROFITABLE and designed to IMPROVE our society / environment from day one of their incubation.
They won’t sacrifice one for the other, while still adding plenty of economic value for all stakeholders.
It's precisely this collective focus that our world needs right now.
We need Startups that work together and design profitable, sustainable, and regenerative business models for the good of all stakeholders... and do it fast!
It's not too late to make a difference.
But we're going to have to hurry!

Startup Community MVPMovement Challenge

2030 is only 5 years away. And no, it's not the year the world ends!
But it is an important milestone.
2030 marks the target date for achieving significant progress on the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Progress to date has been slow!
Only 16 percent of the SDG targets are on track to be met globally by 2030, with the remaining 84 percent showing limited or a reversal of progress.

And while it will take a lot more than Startups to halve global CO2 / Greenhouse gas emissions and solve the UN SDGs - we do have a big role to play.
Startups are, after all, the next generation of business!

It's why we are building the Purposefy MVPCollective / Platform

Purposefy is the all-in-one Playbook designed to inspire startups to create, join, and collectively drive the MVP3 movement to lead with purpose from day one of operations.

All content is designed and curated from a Startup’s perspective

Our decisions and actions over the next five years will determine whether our societies, planet, and economies survive or thrive
Join and help grow the Purposefy MVP3 movement to break through the current "growth at all cost" mentality and become the first generation of Startups to take the lead in fixing and building a thriving planet for all.
Please don't leave it to chance.
One letter can make all the difference!
